Fantasy with a touch of Sci-Fi for children 8-12 years by Katie W Stewart.
When eleven-year-old James is given an electronic game by his old, inventor neighbour, he is intrigued by the lack of screen on the console. He soon finds that with ‘The Dragon Box’ there is no need for a screen. At the flick of the switch, he’s in a game like no other he has ever played before. Somehow he must win the crystal of Mommek and save the Kingdom of Grobnog from Khalana the witch. To do that he must solve problems, face his fears and undertake such horrendous tasks as cutting the toenail from an Ogre with smelly feet. If he fails, there is far more at stake than his pride.

About the author
Hi, I’m Katie.
When I was a little girl, I dreamed of being a palaeontologist. Later, I changed my mind and wanted to be a French teacher. Then I decided I wanted to be an artist. I ended up as an archaeologist, but soon gave that up to be a primary school teacher, then moved on to being a freelance illustrator. I’m not very good at making up my mind. There are just so many exciting things to do. One thing, though, has never changed. I have always loved books and always made up stories in my head. Now I’m having a wonderful time turning my stories into books for young and old.
I live on a farm in Western Australia with my husband and three children, as well as assortment of animals including sheep, dogs, cats, an old blind duck and a budgie. I work in a school as library assistant and IT support (meaning I pretend to know about computers) and write in my spare time. I still do illustrations and one day hope to create a book with my own story and illustrations combined. For the moment, I’m happy creating fantasy pictures in words.
In my other spare time – when I’m not working, writing, cooking, washing, shopping or cleaning – I play guitar and I’m teaching myself to play the celtic harp, a childhood dream which came true rather a long time after my childhood. I’m a great believer in making dreams come true, no matter how old they are. Who knows, one day I might fulfil another childhood dream and go into outer space!
Apart from ‘The Dragon Box’, I have also written a Young Adult fantasy called ‘Mark of the Dragon Queen’. If you’ve read and liked ‘The Dragon Box’, maybe you’ll enjoy that book when you’re a little older.
